Her first official library outing

This morning, baby girl and I went to the library (the same one that I work at) for her first children's program. It was strange to sit there and be "on the other side" of things instead of having to conduct it myself.

Anyway, the program was for Kindermusik and I had often booked this lady myself over the years. Unfortunately, when we got there, we found out that Miss Darcy's kids had come down with the flu and she had called to cancel this morning.

I have to admit, I had a huge surge of relief go through me when I heard the news. I instantly thought about how (when this had happened to me when I was youth director), I would have been running around, frantically finding things to do in place of the scheduled program. Today, I could actually sit back and watch someone else freak out. Hee Hee! I am so evil!

Well, I can't actually say I am evil, as I know what it feels like and had a healthy dose of empathy wash over me to offset any gleeful feelings that I also experienced.

Mrs. V. did a good job of keeping the kids occupied and Baby Girl really enjoyed sitting there watching the older kids march, sing, dance and play various "shaker" instruments. When music was played, she charmed the mothers nearby by smiling and bouncing up and down. This little one LOVES music!

When it was time for the older kids to do a simple craft, she and I headed to the youth department to pick out a few board books. Again, it was great to be able to go into that department, pick out a few books and LEAVE!! Woo Hoo!!! I love it!

In my next installment....

Things have gotten into such a routine around here that I could tell you everything that has happened in the past two weeks in just a few lines.

Baby girl is sitting up on her own and is also getting up on her fat little knees to rock back and forth. It won't be long now!

She is 6 months old now and it seems like only yesterday since we brought her home. Half a year! Gone like "that" (insert the sound of snapping fingers).

We are planning on taking a trip back "home" to see my parents in Illinois in a couple of weeks. It is going to be good to get out of town for a few days and reconnect with the people who mean the most to me outside of this house. Living so far away from family was hard before, but now that we have baby girl, it is even worse. I would give just about anything to move closer to home. I've lived here long enough. Time to get on with it!

Baby girl has a big week next week, come to think of it. On Wednesday, she goes in to see the doctor for her six week checkup. I am dreading taking her into the doctor's office because of all the H1N1 that is cropping up in our neck of the woods. Hopefully, the DH will be able to come home from work on time to help me with this. I would like to have him sit in the car with her until they call her name, then I will go out to get them, take her straight to the examining room and then he can take her right back out to the car.

She also gets her 6 month shots next Friday, and, again, I am dreading the health department for the same reasons as stated above.

The lady from Bethany will be coming Thursday to do her final home visit and I believe that she said that we go before the judge to finalize everything the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The judge who presides over adoptions in our county makes a big deal every year on that day...he sees nothing but adoption cases and has a big party going on outside of his chambers all day long. You get a chance to celebrate with other adoption families, etc. It will be a wonderful day, I am sure.

My Birthday's today!

Happy birthday to me, Happy birthday to me, Happy birthday to myself.....Happy birthday to me!

Baby girl gave me her present early...her first tooth came in on Tuesday. She is rather fussy today (not her usual self) so I am wondering if she isn't trying to bring in tooth number 2.

I think I am going to treat myself today by sitting down and reading a book while she naps (IF she naps) this afternoon. I think the laundry can wait one more day....

I might even be the ultimate rebel and actually NAP????? Wow!

Crazy Ideas and Garage Sales

Since we have been spending every weekend out at our seasonal campsite, I never had a chance to get rid of the boxes and boxes of collected "clutter" that had been steadily piling up in our three season porch.

I longed to get that room back in order and (with winter fast approaching in this part of the U.S.), time was definitely running out. So, with the DH's help, we managed to put together a type of "indoor garage sale" consisting of two rooms in our home, lots of tables, many items and very little space.

I absolutely abhor clutter and confusion. So, for three days, I had a hair pulling, time consuming, gut wrenching, attention consuming time. I am so glad it is over!!!!

People were very good at wiping their feet before entering which was a good thing, as the weather was absolutely horrible with rain, rain and more rain. Maybe I'm a trend setter, as several people commented on having this type of sale and that it wasn't a bad idea. I wasn't about to tell them that a prerequisite for doing this type of thing is that you must be half out of your mind.

Anyhow....the baby is now 5 months old and eating her first foods. So far, she hasn't shown any adverse reactions to any of the food that we have given her and it has been mostly smooth sailing.

I am becoming more convinced that she might not ever crawl (which is fine with me at the moment) as she rolls and scoots everywhere she wants to get to. I WILL be glad when she begins to sit up on her own, though as I think she will be more content with being able to more easily reach toys and play with them. Time will tell!

Just another day in Paradise

Had a sick headache yesterday and found out that headaches and babies don't mix well. I started to call in reinforcements, but didn't as I was too dizzy to even concentrate on making a phone call. WHEW...I'm glad the headache is gone, but the day after is almost as bad, what with the tired, sore feeling that these things leave me with.

Baby girl got through her shots just fine, but they seemed to knock her for more of a loop than the first round did. I don't like the idea of medicating a baby, even though her doctor told me it was fine to do so on occasion. Therefore, after 3 hours of fussy screaming and acting like she was sore, the DH and I decided to give her a low dose of baby medicine. Within 20 minutes of taking it, she seemed back to normal but sleepy and was totally zonked out by 8:30 that evening. Didn't like to see her "doped" but she woke up yesterday in a good mood, thank goodness!

I am going to attempt to clean the upstairs bedrooms this afternoon, provided baby girl takes a good nap. Time will tell, like usual!
